  • ISWS has been involved in setting up seed banks at individual & community level in villages of Pathapratima Block. At present three seed banks has already been set up in Ramganga, Brajaballavpur and Indraprastha village. More than 55 varieties of paddy and 45 vegetable varieties are being conserved in farmers fields and experimental farms.
  •
  •  Our community seed bank project is aiming at identifying important traditional seed varieties and orienting the agricultural community towards conserving and cultivating them to that they can survive in the stress period and combat with drought condition. We are focusing on indigenous paddy and vegetable varieties; because it is a proven fact that, the hybrid varieties are much vulnerable to climate change and pest attack as compare to the indigenous varieties. Our main aim is to enhance the livelihood security of small and marginal farmers through conservation of indigenous genetic resources, empower them with organic farming technologies, and conserve the Bio-diversity.
